Work Hours, Vacation & Leave Policy

As mentioned in  our Values , we take autonomy seriously. This means that you are free to work wherever, whenever, and however you like, as long as you get the work done on time, every time. And the quality is always up to standard.

Alarm Clock Work Hours

Our standard work hours are Monday-Friday 09:00-18:00 SA time.

We trust you to manage your day as effectively as possible. We don't track time or monitor your movements.

If you need to move house, or your child is sick, or an old friend is in town and you want to take the morning off to meet them, that is all cool. You don't need to check with us and you don't need to explain yourself.

You do, however, need to ensure that you are not letting your clients or colleagues down. And that you are not putting deadlines and quality work at risk.

You do this by managing your time well and recognising that if you take some time off during the week, you may need to work on the weekends or evenings to catch up.

It also means that if you do take some time off during "normal working hours", and it's not planned leave, then we expect you to still be contactable via Slack, phone or email.

Don't just ghost us.

🏝 Vacation Policy

You are entitled to 15 workdays of annual leave in addition to all South African public holidays. You will need to request annual leave at least two (2) weeks in advance with your line manager.

Use the Flamingo app, integrated into Slack, to submit and receive approval of leave requests.

All annual leave days should be utilised in the calendar year they apply. Because taking leave is sometimes tricky to coordinate, annual leave days may roll over up to a maximum of three (3) months into the following calendar year.

If there are any remaining leave days at the end of this cutoff period, they are considered forfeited.

A calendar year runs from 1st January to 31st December. It does not reset on your "joining" or "start" date. Instead, it accrues at the rate of 1.25 leave days per month. If you are unsure of your leave balance or want to take more days than are available, consult your line manager.

NOTE (applicable to staff who started with the company in 2022 or earlier):

All outstanding leave balances from 2021 or earlier are considered closed. If you have any remaining days from 2022 and 2023, you have a grace period until 31st December 2024 to utilise all remaining untaken days from those two calendar years.

Face with Thermometer Sick leave or family medical leave

You are also entitled to 10 workdays of sick leave per year but must provide proof in the form of a certified doctor's note.
