Vision, mission, values

Who we are

Contentellect is an SEO and content marketing agency that specialises in  content writing  and  link building . We also offer complimentary services like  product description writing ,  eBook writing ,  HARO outreach  and  As Seen On PR .

Our clients are SaaS companies, funded startups, affiliate marketers, content website owners, eCommerce brands, digital agencies, and other online businesses.

We launched in early 2018 as a fully  remote organisation .

Our team consists of over 100 native-English-speaking writers and an executive and  account management team  based in Cape Town, South Africa, and Guernsey, an island in the English Channel.

Our vision

To deliver high quality content and powerful links that help our clients dominate online.

Our mission

To maintain a relentless focus on quality outputs. We do this by recruiting great writers, editors and account managers, and training them to excel in their craft.

Our values

Creating, maintaining, and nurturing a company culture is difficult, especially for a remote organisation like ours that also has lots of freelancers and independent contractors.

Company culture tends to emerge and evolve naturally, so to try to artificially impose a culture is somewhat futile.

Notwithstanding these challenges, here is a rough idea of the type of cultural values we would like the team at  Contentellect  to embody.

Autonomy Woman Technologist

Who doesn’t like autonomy? At Contentellect we aim to maximise autonomy. That means you are free to work wherever, whenever, and however, you please. We  don't track time or monitor your movements . If you’re a night owl, you can work at night. If you like taking a nap during the afternoon, take a nap. Want to meet a friend for a morning coffee, go to the gym or schedule a doctor’s appointment, just do it. We’re all adults and we trust you to manage your day in a way that works effectively for you. All we care about are quality outputs. This brings us to our second value.

Quality outputs Check Mark Button

In addition to being a remote-first organisation, we’re also 100% output orientated. This means we only care about the quality of the outputs you deliver. We set high standards for our work and go to great pains to effectively  communicate, train, and up-skill  you to deliver to these standards, consistently. Delivering quality outputs means taking pride in your work, taking on board constructive feedback, continually learning and improving, and not settling for sub-standard work. It also means delivering on time, every time, which brings us to our third value.

Deadlines matter Hourglass Not Done

No one likes being let down. If you agree to complete work by a given deadline, make sure you can deliver. We always set fair deadlines and provide enough flexibility to help you manage your time. We aim to work with reliable people. If a deadline is at risk, we expect you to communicate this to us as early as possible, which brings us onto our fourth value.

Communicate honestly & effectively Speech Balloon

Most relationships break down because of poor communication. At Contentellect we encourage everyone to over-communicate. We want to foster an open and transparent environment where no voice is silenced or unheard, and people feel confident to speak freely. This is true of the most mundane things, like communicating that a deadline is at risk, to more important matters like  compensation , fairness, one’s goals, mental state, or thoughts about their future. We aim to always listen carefully, and do the right thing, which brings us to our fifth value.

Do the right thing Smiling Face with Hearts

Almost all people prefer going to bed at night knowing they did the right thing during the day. No one likes to feel guilt or shame. We commit to do the right thing by you and expect you to do the right thing by us and our clients. On the benign end, this means not cutting corners, like plagiarising content or letting a team member down, to more serious things like soliciting clients or stealing intellectual property. If in doubt, ask someone you trust to give you their honest opinion on what’s right. If it doesn’t feel good, don’t do it.

Positive vibes Clinking Beer Mugs

Finally, we want Contentellect to be a fun place to work, full of people who exude positive vibes. As we’re a remote company, most of the time you will be working by yourself with no direct interaction with colleagues. This can be lonely. Communication will almost exclusively be via email or  Slack  where a lot can be lost in translation. Be careful how you communicate and try to bring your positive self to every interaction with fellow team members and clients. A positive attitude can get most people out of any sticky situation.

Hopefully, the above values help guide us as an organisation towards an open and inclusive culture built on trust, excellence, and good vibes.

We aim to hire, promote, and support team members who embrace and embody these values, but equally, we will choose not to work with people who consistently:

Deliver poor outputs
Demonstrate an inability to learn and improve from feedback
Miss deadlines without communicating to us
Require micromanagement
Do things that fail the “do the right thing” litmus test
Act as a killjoy
